Decimate MPS Budget

The massive cuts in public school funding in Gov. Walker's proposed 2011-13 state budget will have a profoundly negative effect on our district.  The Legislature's calendar calls for passage of the biennial budget during its June 7-30 floor period.  It's unlikely that the state's process will be completed when MPS adopts its budget on June 7.

The district has several items on its "Navigating Budget Impacts" page - including the timetable for School Board approval of the MPS budget for 2011-12.

Some of the key dates are:

•  May 21 (Saturday) - Public hearing (required by law).
•  June 7 (Tuesday) - Board meets to adopt budget.
•  June 8, 9, and 10 - Schools work with governance councils on changes necessitated by the district's adopted budget.
