Welcome New Teachers

Welcome new teachers!

New teachers attended orientation on Monday, August 27.

After a morning of information overload on salary, benefits and other matters, teachers were treated to a catered picnic, door prizes and valuable information, courtesy of their union.

MTEA elected leaders joined in the fun, talking to new members and encouraging them to get involved in our efforts to improve the lives of educators and the students and families we serve.

"We are excited about our newest MTEA members," said MTEA President Dennis Oulahan. "I hope they heard the message that their union is here for them, and that we want to do whatever we can to help them have a successful year and teaching career in MPS."

MTEA elected Building Representative Claudia Morris was a big help and an encouraging presence to the new teachers as well. "I tried to talk with many new teachers to welcome them, and let them know that the building representatives in their schools are a resource for them," said Morris. "I still remember how stressful that first year was, and it was great to have veteran teachers to lean on."

MTEA participates in new teacher orientation every year, presenting important information on salary, health, dental and other insurance benefits, and investments for retirement. New teachers who wish to stay are treated to a picnic catered by Saz's, door prizes and an opportunity for valuable networking.
