Members Earn National Board Certification

8 MTEA Members Earn National Board Certification

8 MTEA teacher members are among a distinguished group of 110 Wisconsin educators who have earned certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards this year. 35 of our members now have earned the certification – more than any other district in the state.

National Board certification is a rigorous process. Teachers must examine every aspect of their teaching. They must document their subject knowledge, provide evidence of their success in teaching and student achievement, and demonstrate exceptional classroom management.

The 8 members who have earned their certification this year are:

  • Thomas Brown, Morgandale Elementary
  • Margaret Fischer, Milwaukee Spanish Immersion
  • Paula Henn, Greenfield Bilingual
  • Kristi Hepp, Milwaukee Sign Language Elementary
  • Katherine Katter, Milwaukee High School of the Arts
  • Kerry Mess, Rufus King
  • Laurie Pusich, Milwaukee French Immersion
  • Melisa Sykora, Ninety-Fifty Street Elementary

“Our members are to be commended for their achievement and for their perseverance in the rigorous process of National Board certification,” says MTEA President Dennis Oulahan. “We have always known that Milwaukee educators are among the best in the state, and the fact that MPS has more National Board certified teachers than any other district is further proof of the high quality teaching and learning that happens daily in our classrooms.”
