LaborFest 2007

Over 100 MTEA Members Show Their Union Pride at LaborFest 2007Members march down Wisconsin Ave. proudly carrying MTEA Banner

Over 100 MTEA members participated in LaborFest activites on September 3, 2007.

LaborFest is a celebration of workers sponsored by the Milwaukee and Waukesha County Labor Councils.

Chanting, carrying signs and banners, and sporting MTEA t-shirts, members and their families proudly marched down Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Milwaukee from the Frank Zeidler Square Park on 3rd and Michigan Avenue.

Most MTEA members stayed to enjoy the festivities at the Summerfest grounds after the parade. They were treated to live music, exhibitions, family-friendly activities, great festival refreshments, and camaraderie with our union brothers and sisters across southeast Wisconsin.

"LaborFest is a great tradition for local unions," said MTEA President Dennis Oulahan.  "It's an opportunity to join with workers from all trades and professions to celebrate our history and our achievements over the years."

It's also a time to remember the sacrifices workers of past generations made to secure the rights we enjoy today.

"We have a responsibility to preserve the rights we have now, and honor the legacy of people who fought and perished so their children and grandchildren could live better lives than they did," says President Oulahan.  "It's a very important part of what we do on Labor Day."

MTEA members participate in LaborFest every year.  Members receive t-shirts and food/beverage tickets to redeem during the festivities after the parade.  Those who have limited mobility can volunteer to help at the MTEA exhibit table.
