National Board Certification

National Board Certification

National Board Certification is a voluntary, advanced teaching credential that goes beyond state licensure by creating national standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do.

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards measures a teacher's practice against high and rigorous standards.

The process consists of extensive work samples, videotapes and thorough analyses of the candidates' classroom teaching, and student learning.

Teachers also complete a series of written exercises that test their subject matter knowledge, as well as their ability to teach those subjects to their students.

The National Boards process comes highly recommended by the MTEA as well as the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Visit the National Board Certified Teachers of Wisconsin Network for information and support.
