Become a New Teacher Leader!

Teachers for a New Era at UW-Milwaukee and the NEA Foundation invite you to become one of 30 new teachers selected to participate in this prestigious initiative for 1st and 2nd year teachers at NEA Focus schools.

Rewards:

  • Develop PI-34 DPI Professional Development Plan (PDP)
  • Collaborate with other new teachers
  • Tuition waiver for graduate credit at UWM, or a stipend if you do not elect to enroll for credit
  • Develop Action Research skills to improve your teaching and eligibility to apply as a 2008-09 Action Research Fellow
  • Recognition from the NEA Foundation and UWM’s Teachers for a New Era Carnegie Corporation of New York project as a New Teacher Leader
  • Support and encouragement during your first years of teaching

Instructors

Twice monthly sessions will be led by Marleen Pugach, Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at UWM, and Jennifer Wilson, an Associate Lecturer in the School of Education at UWM with 11 years of experience in MPS. Other UWM faculty will be available to share their expertise, including faculty from a variety of academic content areas.

Eligibility

You must be a 1st or 2nd year teacher in an NEA Focus School to participate; we especially encourage the participation of new bilingual teachers and special education teachers along with all regular classroom teachers at all grade levels and content areas.
