Special Education Committee

Proactively identifies and addresses the concerns of special education personnel - through surveys, workshops, meetings, etc. Deals with both professional growth and working conditions. Nancy Costello is the MTEA staff liaison.

 

Specific objectives for the 2008-09 school year:

  1. Increase special educators' involvement in the committee and in the ongoing process of the MTEA.
  2. Investigate member concerns relative to special education issues.
  3. Attend conferences/conventions relative to special education and educational reform as approved by the MTEA Executive Board.
  4. Provide ongoing, updated information to all special education teachers.
  5. Continue to monitor inclusion of special education students within MPS.
  6. Provide a voice for special education teachers.
  7. Develop the professional growth and monitor the working conditions of special education teachers.
  8. Provide information regarding changes in the laws that govern special education programming and the response of the school administration to these changes.
  9. Develop a system to keep special education teachers informed of these changes and the ways such changes are expected to affect teachers.
