Educational Assistants systemwide are invited to join one (or more) of our union's committees, outlined below in three groups:
New - Created as ways to help reinvent the MTEA.
Established - Focused on professional areas and concerns.
Standing - Support the governance and democratic structure of MEAA/MTEA.
Committee descriptions followed by (EA) are open exclusively to EA members.

Community/Parent Outreach - Will improve already existing relationships with various community and parent groups in Milwaukee.
Democracy Action - Will expand member involvement in political issues of the city, state, and country.
Membership Activation/Social - Will focus on internal organizing to increase the capacity of our union through member involvement.
Publications - Will review existing communications of the MTEA and make recommendations for print and web media.
Social Justice - Will explore issues of social justice affecting our schools and communities, and develop education.
Special Education - Will identify and address issues of paraprofessionals who work with special education students. (EA)
Established
Bilingual/ESL - Will focus on issues and trends affecting students and educators in bilingual and ELL classes.
Early Childhood - Will focus on educational policies and their appropriateness on early childhood education.
Educational Opportunies - Will focus on seeking (and planning) workshops and inservices/courses specifically for EAs. (EA)
Human Relations - Will focus on human relations concerns of special interest to EAs. (EA)
Human Relations/Multicultural Educators - Will develop quality professional development opportunities in multicultual education and promote the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. writing contest.
Membership - Will develop membership campaign ideas with the MEAA Chairperson as the key person to carry out a personal approach. (EA)
Retirement/Pension - Will help plan and implement workshops on retirement/pension benefits for EAs. (EA)
Security and Discipline - Will address safety, security, and discipline issues.
Special Interest - Will address the unique needs and concerns of specific EA groups such as technology, library assistants, and parent coordinators. (EA)
Standing
Balloting - Counts EA membership votes on election of NEA RA delegates, MEAA Officers, and Executive Council members, etc. (EA)
Budget - Develop recommendations for EA leaders to present to the Joint Budget Committee. (EA) Prepares and recommends an annual program budget and dues for our union.
Collective Bargaining - Gathers information related to negotiations. Helps prepare for negotiations and perform other supportive tasks. (EA)
Constitution - Drafts amendments affecting EAs only into proper format with pros and cons and makes recommendations to the MEAA Executive Council. (EA) Drafts amendments into proper format with pros and cons and makes recommendations to the MTEA Executive Board.
Legislative - Studies and recommends positions on legislation affecting MTEA members. Helps develop campaigns on specific bills, including organizing membership involvement.
Nominating - Recruits candidates for MEAA Officer and Executive Council positions. (Active in 2011-12.) (EA)
Political Action Committee - Interviews candidates for local offices to determine endorsement recommendations. Distributes PAC funds and organizes volunteers to support candidates.
