The Don Feilbach Friend of Public Education in Milwaukee Award is presented to an individual or group who has made a significant contribution to public education in Milwaukee.

Be as thorough and specific as possible in describing past and present activities which merit the award. Include specific examples and stories that illustrate the nominee's commitment to public education.

Our union will present the awards at our Annual Leadership Convocation in the fall.

Criteria

  • The award will be given to a group or individual who has made a significant contribution to public education in Milwaukee.
  • The activity or action being recognized must be completed or ongoing, as opposed to being promised.
  • The impact of the activity, actions or contributions should be viewed as long-term, enhancing, complementary to the goals of the MTEA, and easily recognizable.
  • MTEA members and employees are not eligible for the award.
  • The inidividual or organizations recognized should not be a member, contributor or advocate for other causes which are recognized as being in conflict with the policies or positions of the MTEA. For example, organiziations such as the KKK or pro-voucher groups would not be considered.

Decision of the MTEA Executive Board

  • The Board shall consider the nominations received which have met timelines and submission requirements.
  • The Board may bestow more than 1 award in each of the 4 categories, but shall not be required to bestow an award in any category irrespective of the number of nominations.
  • The Board shall make its decision on the basis of the criteria.
  • The nominations submitted and votes thereon shall be the property of the MTEA.
  • The Board may form a subcommittee of Board members to develop recommendations for the final decision by the full Board.
