Does each calendar follow the past pattern?
Yes, with one exception. WEAC dropped its two-day teacher convention next fall. (It's too costly.)

How do next year's calendars address the elimination of teachers convention?
The convention days will become MPS professional development (PD) days for all schools. One PD day will be held on Friday, October 28. The other districtwide PD day will be Friday, February 17, 2012.

Will teachers have a full day of individual preparation and planning on the first banking day?
Yes. The day after organization day will be entirely for individual teacher preparation and planning, including getting classrooms ready for students who will start the next day.

How will the other 4 days be used?
Per contract, the other days will be split between individual "Teacher Prep" and systemwide "PD."

Will PD and Teacher Prep days alternate like this year?
Yes. The district will alternate PD and Teacher Prep by grade levels. On days K-8 teachers have PD, senior high teachers have Teacher Prep - and vice versa.

What is the alternating schedule?
This schedule is outlined below:
October 7 (Friday) K-8 - Teacher Prep 9-12 - PD
January 23 (Monday) K-8 - PD 9-12 - Teacher Prep
March 9 (Friday) K-8 - Teacher Prep 9-12 - PD
May 7* (Monday) K-8 - PD 9-12 - Teacher Prep
*April 20 for IB schools.

How will the PD content be determined?
For the 2 days of systemwide PD that will replace teacher convention days, a joint six-member Professional Development Committee (3 reps each for the Board and our union) will be responsible for developing the content.
Like this school year, the central administration will be responsible for planning systemwide PD for banking days.
