Board’s Proposal for a Longer Day

The board proposed to lengthen the workday for elementary and K-8 teachers by 25 minutes of additional “student contact time” for 2009-10 and 2010-11. After 2 years of assumed stimulus funding, the proposal stated the added time "…may be extended beyond the term of the contract subject to the availability of funding.”

The board proposed additional pay for the longer day:

“Effective at the end of each semester of the 2009-2010 school year all elementary and K-8 teachers shall receive a one time non-base building lump sum of $1500.”

 

“Effective at the end of each semester of the 2010-2011 school year all elementary and K-8 teachers shall receive a one time non-base building lump sum of $1531.”

 

Proposal to Increase Faculty Meeting Time

The board’s proposed to modify the faculty/inservice section of the contract as shown below:

 

“d. All teachers may be required to attend faculty meetings or inservice sessions not to exceed two eight hours per month, at the employee’s work site. The content of such meetings or sessions shall be at the discretion of the Board…"

The board proposed additional pay for increasing faculty meeting/inservice time:

“Effective at the end of each semester of the 2009-2010 school year each teacher shall receive a one time non-base building lump sum of $1018.”

 

“Effective at the end of each semester of the 2010-2011 school year each teacher shall receive a one time non-base building lump sum of $1038.”
 

Superintendent Tries Bargaining in Public . . . Again

In March, Supt. Andrekopoulos announced proposals for a longer day and year-round schools in the newspaper - not at the bargaining table. On May 7, the superintendent made another attempt at bargaining in the media.
