Life Insurance

Life Insurance

Eligibility

Most actively-employed members covered by one of the four MTEA contracts are eligible for term life insurance and are automatically enrolled by MPS, including:

- Teachers

- Educational assistants, after one year with MPS, if they work 20 or more hours per week

- Regular substitute teachers

- Accountants/Bookkeepers

Coverage Amount/Board-Paid

Your amount of life insurance coverage is based on your annual base salary, rounded to the next $1,000 increment. For example, a teacher with an annual salary of $32,001, has $33,000 in life insurance.

The School Board pays all of the premium (up to the negotiated salary amounts below.) You are deducted a small amount for each thousand dollars of coverage above the maximum.

- Teachers: $50,000

- Educational assistants:  $19,000

- Regular substitute teachers:  No Cap

- Accountants/Bookkeepers:  $50,000

Beneficiary

You are responsible for notifying MPS of your choice of beneficiaries – and any changes you may desire if you marry, divorce, have children, a death, etc.

New employees should receive a life insurance enrollment card from MPS to initially name their beneficiaries.

To check or change beneficiaries, call MPS at 475-8215.
