Eligibility/Enrollment

Eligibility

Most actively-employed members covered by one of the four MTEA contracts are eligible for Board-paid group health care coverage including:

  • Teachers
  • Educational assistants who work 20 or more hours a week
  • Substitute teachers who meet one of two contractual eligibility requirements
  • Accountants/Bookkeepers

Enrollment – New Hires

New employees must enroll within 31 days of their first day of work.

We strongly recommend that you bring your initial enrollment form to Room 124 of the MPS central office and ask for a time-stamped photo copy – as proof of your timely application.

September Open Enrollment

During September of each year, employees may:

  • Enroll if they had not previously
  • Add dependents
  • Switch health care plans
  • Re-enroll upon returning from a leave

Re-Enrollment Required When Returning From Leave

While on unpaid leave (or layoff), you are required to pay the entire monthly premium to maintain coverage. If not, you must apply for coverage when you return to work. Coverage does not resume automatically!

We strongly recommend that you bring your new form for re-enrolling to Room 124 of the MPS central office and ask for a time-stamped photo copy – as proof of your timely application.
