Follow these steps when you are going to be absent:
If you know in advance that you will be absent, you should notify your school immediately. If you cannot call until the morning of your absence, you should call your school from one hour before to one hour after your starting time. Calling as soon as you can is preferable. When you call, report your absence to whomever the school has designated to receive such calls. If the designated person is unavailable, you should report your absence to the school secretary.
To arrange for a substitute teacher, you should call one of the following phone numbers, depending on your location:
Northside Elementary - 414-238-6223 Northside Secondary - 414-238-6224 Southside Elementary - 414-238-6225 Southside Secondary - 414-238-6226
North Avenue is the north/south dividing line. When you call for a substitute, you will be asked to provide the following information:
You should call only once. If for some reason you need to call twice, be certain you indicate it is your second call. If two substitutes are dispatched to your assignment, your school will be charged a half-day's pay for the substitute who is sent but not needed.
Dispatchers are on duty to receive your call Monday through Friday from 4:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. If you know in advance you will be absent, you should call the substitute dispatch service during the day prior to your absence.
When you are absent, you should inform your school of your intention to return. You must let your school know no later than one-half hour before the end of the pupil day on the afternoon prior to the day of your return - so that the substitute can be released. If you do not notify your school on time, you will not be allowed to return until the following afternoon, and you will be charged a half day of sick leave for the morning.
