Pension Benefits

Wisconsin Retirement System Benefits

Teachers participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System plan. WRS coveres over 500,000 state and local government employees and retirees. The WRS pension plan is administered by the State Department of Employee Trust Funds (ETF). See the ETF Web site for more information.

ETF also has a telephone message center to answer frequently asked questions at 1-800-991-5540. Press "1" to access a menu of messages on eligibility, applying for benefits, calculating benefits, and other options.

Supplemental Pension Benefits (SERP)

Teachers have a supplemental plan which the MTEA bargained with the School Board. Its formal title is the Supplemental Early Retirement Plan -- SERP for short.

The amount of supplemental benefit will be much smaller than your WRS monthly benefit. Your amount depends on the years of service, final average, and your age at retirement.

For more information, attend the MTEA retirement workshop in the fall of each school year (see calendar of events) or contact Don Ernest of the MTEA staff.
