Protecting Yourself and Your Property

The following suggestions were developed by the Milwaukee Police Department Crime Prevention Unit to help prevent purse snatchings, auto thefts and break-ins, muggings, etc.

  1. Lock your car.
  2. Do not leave possessions in your car.
  3. If you must leave items such as sunglasses or gloves in your car, do not leave them in view.
  4. If you carry a purse, use an old purse and place it under a car seat while driving - not in view.
  5. Avoid bringing any personal items, especially jewelry and money, to school; bring only the amoung of money necessary.
  6. Carry a whistle.
  7. Arrive when others arrive and leave when others leave. Do not stay late by yourself.
  8. Park in a locked, fenced-in area whenever possible.
  9. Be aware of dangerous locations and avoid them.
  10. Call the police when you see anything suspicious.
