Interview Teams

School Interview Team Q & A

Which teachers are eligible to vote in the election of teacher team members for interview teams?
“Teachers” include all members of the teacher bargaining unit assigned to the school full-time, including counselors, speech pathologists, social workers, etc. Interns and permit teachers are NOT eligible to vote or be on the team.
Are teachers elected to interview teams on a permanent basis?
No. Each school year, the BR must conduct a new election of teacher team members.
What are the rights and responsibilities of the school interview team?

School interview teams are empowered to:

  • Determine which applicants they will interview
  • Conduct the interviews - once a team has decided on which applicants to interview, it must interview all of them before discussing the candidates and making its selection.
  • Select teachers who best fit the school’s program and philosophy. If a team cannot reach a consensus on a selection, agreement by a majority of the team is required to select an applicant.
Does the contract provide teachers who serve on interview teams with any additional pay or compensatory time off for their service?
NO. The contract does not provide additional pay and/or released time for this service.
May interviews take place during the school day?
NO. MPS has determined that all interviews must be held outside of the school day.
Does the interview team have the option of not selecting any of the applicants interviewed?
Yes.

If you have questions on interviews, please contact Don Ernest at 259-1990.

Vacancies are posted on the MPS portal.

Key dates in the interview process, including the principals' deadline for submitting the list of team members, training for team members, and the interview dates are published on the MTEA online event calendar.
