The primary obstacle to reaching an agreement was the school board's insistence that all schools bank time.You have the right to vote on banking time every year. Your union's negotiators would not agree to negate your voting rights.
Without an agreement, MPS is imposing calendars for all traditional year and most year-round schools with the same 5 banking days. You will not have a banking day before students start.
The school board is violating the contract by imposing banking time days at schools where teachers did not vote for banking time. After analysis and discussion with MTEA attorneys, we are filing a group grievance and a prohibited labor practice complaint against the school board. Unfortunately, the legal steps will take months to process.
