School Leaders

The MTEA Building Representative and the MTEA Educational Assistant Chairperson are school-based Association leaders. They are elected by their colleagues in the school building, and they serve as a resource when MTEA members in their school have contractual or school-level concerns or questions.

Our school-based leaders fulfill many leadership roles including:

  • Enforce the contract
  • Solve schoolwide problems
  • Communicate with members
  • Involve members in union activity, especially new teachers
  • Communicate and carry out MTEA policies
  • Distribute and post Association materials
  • Conduct internal elections and other balloting procedures.

Building representatives and Educational Assistant Chairpersons meet monthly during the school year to conduct business and participate in leadership development opportunities.
